ProSapien offers research and development services in a unique mix of advanced computational intelligence related technologies.

Dr. Samuel M. SmithProSapien’s founder and principle engineer is Samuel M. Smith. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Brigham Young University in 1991. He spent 10 years in academia at Florida Atlantic University, eventually reaching full professor status. He has over 100 refereed publications in the areas of automated reasoning, autonomous vehicles, and distributed systems as well as raising over $20 million in career sponsored research primarily in autonomous systems.  His specialty is automated reasoning, reinforcement learning, computational intelligence, and distributed systems.

After leaving academia, Dr. Smith founded ProSapien and continued doing both commercial and DoD sponsored consulting work in autonomous systems, automated reasoning and survivable networked automation systems. ProSapien’s forte is to understand and to solve problems both technical and business using a holistic systems design approach. Recently ProSapien has developed expertise in systems that use blockchain and byzantine fault tolerant based technologies. This includes the design of both an open reputation and an open identity system on the blockchain. ProSapien is using machine intelligence to build highly cost effective and highly performant active physical protection systems. ProSapien also developed an open source elliptic curve based end-to-end encrypted and authenticated protocol for reliable asynchronous event transport (RAET). Other open source projects supported by ProSapien include the Ioflo asynchronous flow based programming framework.

ProSapien actively promotes the use of Lean Startup methodologies and has extensive experience working with startups using lean approaches to technology and business development.  ProSapien’s breadth and depth of expertise in blockchain, machine learning, automated reasoning and related technologies provides unique insights into the technical and business challenges associated with the emerging opportunities in the associated business ecosystems.
